We know that woven fabric is constructed of two types of yarn called the warp and weft yarn. So in measuring the weight of any woven fabric we need to know the weights of warp and weft yarn separately. With that weight, by summation, we will be able to find out the actual weight of the fabric. Here measurement of woven fabric weight will be discussed below.

**Measurement Weight of Woven Fabric:**

Now, let’s turn towards to mathematical expression of that calculation,

1. Fabric weight = weight of warp yarn + weight of weft yarn

**Mathematical problem:**

For this above Fabric specification, Find out the weight of 100 yds of fabric. Where Crimp % of warp and weft yarn is respectively 4% & 6%.

We can write an elaborate form of this math as:

A grey fabric of 100 yds length and 50-inch width. Whose number of warp and weft yarn used per inch are respectively 60 & 54.

Warp and weft yarn count 32 & 40.

Crimp% of warp = 4%

Crimp% of weft = 6%

**Solution:**

Warp yarn basis calculation:

Length of warp yarn = length of fabric x crimp%

……………..100+4

=100 x ………………..

………………..100

=104 yds

Total length of warp yarn = Width of fabric x Number of yarn per inch

=50 x 60

=3000

Total length of warp yarn = 3000 x 104

=3,12,000 yds

Weight of warp yarn = ………………………………………

…..3,12,000

= ………………

…..840 x 32

=11.61lb

**Weft yarn basis calculation:**

Weft yarn’s tape length = Width of fabric x crimp%

= 53″

This is the length of warp required to weave a definite length of cloth is called tape length.

Number of yarn in weft = Length of fabric (inch) x Number of weft yarn per inch

= 100 x 36 x 54

Weight of weft yarn = Number of weft yarn x Weft’s tape length x ………………………….

So, Weight of fabric = (11.61+8.52)lb

=20.13 lb (ANS)
